About the Course
This course serves as an introduction to the use of technology in the creation of music. Using digital audio software, students learn the basics of sound manipulation, including sequencing, editing, synthesis, and mixing. Additional course topics include the properties of sound, basic recording technology, and music notation software. This course is designed for both music majors and non-majors. Prerequisites: None. (3 credits)

About The Record Co.
The Record Co. (TRC) is a 501c3 nonprofit community music workspace on a mission to remove the technical and social barriers between music makers and their creative visions through low cost, welcoming space to record and rehearse and professional development programming and partnerships. TRC is a lot like a community center but instead of a pool we have recording and rehearsal studios that anyone can use to create.

Getting to The Record Co.
From I-93, take the Mass Ave exit. Head north on Mass Ave towards Dorchester/Roxbury. Please park in the south lot closest to TRC’s entrance (look for the incredible mural created by ProBlak!).

TRC can be accessed via the 8 and 10 buses which stop just outside the building on Mass Ave.
Train
0.5 mi to Newmarket Commuter Rail stop
0.7 mi to Andrew T stop on the Red Line
Newmarket Shuttle Service
The Newmarket Business Improvement District Shuttle services the Newmarket area and runs loops to the Orange, Red, and Fairmont lines. The Orange Line/Ruggles Station Shuttle stops on Mass Ave just outside the building and runs a 5am-Midnight schedule. TRC has BID Shuttle passes available for students/staff to utilize upon request.
