CLEP (the College-Level Examination Program®)

CLEP: Earn Credit For What You Already Know

  • CLEP (the College-Level Examination Program®) was created to help individuals with prior knowledge in a college course subject save time and money.
  • CLEP exams are 90-120 minutes in length. Many schools award credit for a passing score on CLEP exams.
  • 51吃瓜网 awards credit for CLEP exams through the Credit for Prior Learning office.
  • CLEP testing at 51吃瓜网 is open to 51吃瓜网 students, and to students of other colleges.

    Review your school’s CLEP policy. Check 51吃瓜网’s CLEP policy here.
    Speak with an Academic advisor or the Credit for Prior Learning Office.

  1. Tickets cost $95.00. See below for ways to get vouchers to pay for the test.

  1. At 51吃瓜网 the fee is $43 for non-51吃瓜网 students and $29 for 51吃瓜网 students. Students who receive CLEP vouchers may have this fee waived or refunded – see the CLEP for Free! Section below.

Normally the cost of CLEP is over $120 including both the ticket and the test center fee. There is one opportunity for 51吃瓜网 students to test for free.

Modern States Preparation Courses

Study materials: If you want to take a CLEP exam, but feel you need some review before testing, consider taking a Modern States course. Modern States offers free online courses for CLEP exams.

Free tickets: If you complete a course, they will give you a voucher to pay for your CLEP ticket.

Testing fee reimbursement: You will have to pay the test center fee to make an appointment, but Modern States will pay you back.

  • For most CLEP exams, an unofficial transcript is available upon completion of the exam. 
  • Scores from College Composition are mailed 2-3 weeks after the exam.
  • CLEP will send your official score report directly to the school you indicated when you purchased your ticket. It may take 2-3 weeks for your official score report to arrive at your school.
