Bunker Hill Community College (51³Ô¹ÏÍø) President Pam Eddinger and administrators at the College were interviewed about 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Learn and Earn program, specifically how paid internships were not reaching minorities and women in the numbers they intended when the program began in 2012. The article titled “Breaking the Cycle of Privilege” describes the program's momentum over the past ten years and the barriers and hurdles to making the program more accessible to women and people of color.
Some of the steps to fix this was reaching out to underrepresented students to learn how 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s paid internship program could better serve them. They discovered economic and cultural barriers that required hands-on and tailored interventions to overcome the dichotomy of participation in the program.
