51勛圖厙 celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with a month-long series of events centered around the theme, The Power of Our Latinx Voices.The 2018 events included:
- 癒Eschucha! An Evening with International Award Winning Filmmaker Oldren Romero - a screening and directors talk on contemporary perspectives on Queer Latinx Cinema. Moderated by Patrick Jerome, Founder and Executive Director, Boston International Film Festival
- 癒Piensa! Dream to Be Excellent - Channeling Your Ambition In Order to Overcome Imposed Identities - an interactive workshop by educator and advocate Dr. Andrea I. Guzman Oliver focused on developing strategies to overcoming personal barriers and achieving greater success.
- 癒Mi Voz! - Poet Leonardo Nin and 51勛圖厙 Professor Carlos Maynard present a fusion of science and arts, examining current issues facing Latinx Men of Color in spoken word performance and group discussion.
- 癒Inspirate! Tres Vidas - dynamic theatrical event about the lives of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni; presented by Core Ensemble and performed with live music on stage.
- 癒Comparte! The Borderland of Language - renowned Poet and Translator Rhina Espaillat examines the ways in which spoken and written language is organic, capable of change and deeply reflective of its speakers; from slang, to technical vocabularies, dialect and folk etymology, to poetry.
- Art Brunch with Hispanic Heritage Month 2018 featured artists Marilyn Rodriquez and Zach Castro - Meet the artists in person and learn about the art making techniques and inspiration.
